Always going for the real adventure, Flavio wanted to take a regular bus to the main bus station - with our three bags, provisions for the trip and two huge boxes! I talked him out of it - and that´s how we met the most curious of all taxi drivers. Even before leaving our street he had already enquired on where I was from, where we had met, for how long we had been living here, what Flavio was working etc. etc. etc. When he new our CVs by heart and his curiousity was satisfied he told us about the phonecalls he regularly gets, informing him about fake kidnappings. Just the other day someone had called him at 5:00am informing him that his daughter had been kidnapped. He just had replied - ´good on you, she deserves it´. Of course, he doesn´t have a daughter. Some days before someone had tried his luck by informing him about the abduction of his wife - her being safe by his safe he gave them quite a colourfull answer that definately improved my knowledge of portuguese swearwords. Flavio said that he had heard that this dirty trick was used among others by prisoners who ask their vicitms to put as a kind of randsom credits on their phone cards so that they could call out of prison. Most people will hang up on them but who knows, a few still might fall for it, making this trick an easy and lucrative sceme.
Well entertained we reached the bus station Novo Rio and boarded the bus to Ouro Preto. In 7 hours we would be in Ouro Preto, ready to start our adventure!
